  • Lubbock Meals on Wheels needs volunteers to help deliver a thousand meals daily across over seventy-seven routes. Volunteer coordinator Nicole Thomas said the group seeks help year-round for roles as drivers and kitchen assistants and invites community members to join.  FOX34
  • Meals on Wheels in Lubbock is asking for volunteers year-round, especially drivers, to help deliver 1,000 meals daily on 77 routes around the community. Volunteer coordinator Nicole Thomas noted that while volunteer numbers spike early in the year, they drop as other commitments take over (each volunteer helps keep the service running).  KCBD

  • A guide offers local karaoke nights at popular spots like Silver Bullet and Shotzy’s, detailing session days, happy hour deals, and themed events for a fun night out + community spirit.  KKAM
  • Rudy Trevino’s Tejano Gold Countdown (which lists the top 25 Tejano and Regional Mexican songs for 2025 based on TGC analytics) will air every Sunday at 8 a.m. with a same-day replay at 5 p.m., and he has been voted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.  KKAM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lubbock recorded a warm December when highs hit 86°F on Dec. 25 (above the usual 50–60°F) and raised wildfire concerns, prompting residents to be extra cautious with flammable materials outdoors.  KFYO
  • In December, Lubbock broke winter temperature records with highs of 85°F on Dec. 22, 84°F on Dec. 23 and 86°F on Christmas Day, raising wildfire risks. Residents are urged to limit outdoor flammable use & watch their energy expenses as gusty winds increased fire concerns.  KKAM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Congressman Jodey Arrington announced today a $1.4 billion investment to boost rural health in West Texas, with $281 million per year for five years to help hospitals, telehealth and training under the Rural Health Transformation Program — overseen by Texas Health and Human Services.  KFYO
