EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ South Plains College announced Friday that Spring 2026 enrollment reached 10,260 — a 5 percent increase over last spring — with dual-credit enrollment rising 13 percent to 4,959, according to SPC President Robin Satterwhite. FOX34
- ➤ Texas Tech University moved into the top 20% for online education programs per the 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings as it holds online and in-person courses to the same high standard. It will offer 36 undergraduate online degrees this fall to support nontraditional students in Lubbock. KCBD
- ➤ South Plains College reported Friday that Spring enrollment increased by 5% to 10,260 students from 9,771 last spring, and dual-credit enrollment rose to 4,959 from 4,389 + college officials say the boost helps high school students earn transferable credits. KCBD
- ➤ John Hartin, an influential musician & educator who started the first commercial music program at South Plains College, passed away Thursday morning in Lubbock. His work inspired generations of students and launched careers for major recording artists. KCBD

- ➤ Feral hogs are causing significant damage to crops and highways in Texas, with economic losses and safety issues on the rise. Local officials are considering stronger control measures to protect farms and roads (including areas near Lubbock) as hog numbers continue to grow. KFYO
