BUSINESS NEWS

  • Alamo Drafthouse closed its doors on Sunday — refunds were offered for future shows, and rumors suggest Flix Brewhouse might soon take over the 120 W Loop 289 location. Stay tuned for further updates.  KFYO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lubbock residents are choosing down-to-earth Valentine's Day date ideas such as dinner and Walmart trips, drive-arounds, and home cooking instead of the traditional candlelit outings—these choices show a practical take on romance.  KFYO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lubbock Monterey chapter of AMBUCS donated $58,500 to Texas Tech Health Sciences School of Health Professionals through its Summerfest event to support scholarships for students pursuing degrees in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, audiology, and athletic training. The chapter has contributed more than $1 million for 65 years.  KCBD
  • Lubbock ISD is now providing new support programs for over 17,000 students facing economic challenges by using a three-tier system to identify needs and connecting families with essentials such as uniforms and housing help. The district works closely with teachers and local nonprofits to refine its approach.  FOX34

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office has requested $251,000 for its Healing the Shield mental health program after the Commissioners Court approved the application. The grant will help fund training, counseling, and stress management services for law enforcement and other first responders across the county.  FOX34
  • TxDOT crews will repair the concrete rail on South Loop 289 flyover on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 11-12, beginning after the morning rush hour so the flyover can be closed for work. Drivers will follow a detour via the cloverleaf ramp (or the 82nd Street turnaround) to reach northbound I-27.  KCBD

SPORTS NEWS

  • The UIL announced new noisemaker rules for baseball and softball games that will take effect this season, allowing small cowbells, shakers, clappers and inflatable thunder sticks while banning air horns, whistles and percussion tools.
