  • Local VFW Post 2466 is seeking help returning military items to veteran families. Relatives of Lance Corporal Raymond Longoria Montoya (purple heart veteran) or Staff Sergeant Truman D. Godwin (air medal recipient) can contact the post, which has held the items for over a year.  FOX34
  • Friends of the Library is hosting a book sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (over 300 visitors have arrived by mid-morning to browse 50-cent paperbacks, $1 hardbacks, posters, CDs and vinyl records with proceeds funding local library programs).  KCBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Barricades Unlimited will close 3rd Street (between Santa Fe Drive and Boston Avenue) starting Monday, March 2 for J&L Backhoe Services to perform roadway work; the project is expected to finish by March 10 as weather permits.  FOX34
  • Fireworks sales in Lubbock face uncertainty as dry, windy conditions led local officials to bar stands for Texas Independence Day—upcoming windows for San Jacinto Day on April 16–21, Cinco de Mayo on May 1–5, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and other holidays remain subject to local restrictions.  KFYO
  • Lubbock civic leaders and veterans advocates gathered Thursday night to honor the generals who pushed for the West Texas Veterans Cemetery. Nearly 2,400 veterans will have a final resting place when the cemetery opens this spring – a tribute to their service.  KCBD
