COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Buffalo Springs Lake, southeast of Lubbock, will charge adults $20 and allow free entry for two children 15 and under per paying adult as the new fees fund planned improvements including redone beaches, new pavilions, and rebuilt nature trails.  KKAM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Former teacher and coach Kim Chaffin read her children's book (Breaking the Huddle) to local kids in Smyer on Monday. She wrote the book to honor her late father and to teach lessons on confidence and courage.  FOX34
  • On Monday, Mar. 2, Texans celebrated Texas Independence Day, marking 190 years since the Texas Declaration of Independence. The event featured prideful displays, Texas tunes, and movies highlighting the state's heritage.  KKAM

  • Texas Tech’s Rawls College of Business Center for Real Estate was renamed Monday in honor of alumni John and Rachel Brownlee. They created an advisory board that increased instruction, research, and industry links for nearly 300 students enrolled in the center's commercial real estate courses.  KCBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • 3rd St. in Lubbock is closed between Santa Fe Dr. and Boston Ave. for road repairs + Indiana Ave.'s northbound lanes and parts of 34th St. are closed for emergency sewer repairs; both projects will finish by Tuesday, Mar. 10, and drivers are advised to take alternate routes.  FOX34

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Texas Tech men's basketball team is now 22-7 and ranked in the AP Top 10 after winning three games in a row despite losing star JT Toppin. They will play a home game against TCU in Lubbock before the Big 12 Tournament.  KFYO
  • Texas Tech and LCU esports clubs host Battle for 806 this Saturday to raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. with a panel and noon competitions in Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Valorant at Tech's media building (LCU streaming Valorant).  FOX34
