ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • DPS officials urge drivers to avoid mile marker 254 on highway 84 in Bailey County—troopers are responding to an overturned semi amid near zero visibility that is causing traffic backups.  KCBD

CRIME NEWS

  • Police are investigating a shooting at a west Lubbock apartment complex near 21st and West Loop 289, where a fight turned violent Thursday night—one person was injured and another was taken into custody.  KCBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lubbock Lemonade Day has released its schedule to teach youth business and leadership skills; registration opens on March 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Goodwill Career Resource Center + a launch on March 20, bank loan day on April 3, create your stand day on April 5 + and big squeeze on April 26 lead to National Lemonade Day on May 3.  FOX34
  • Coronado High School and McCool Academy dismissed early on March 14th due to an extended power outage—bus service ran three hours ahead of schedule and staff stayed until every student was picked up.  FOX34

HEALTH NEWS

  • University Medical Center in Lubbock implemented a temporary masking rule on the 1st and 2nd floor common areas of its Children's Hospital to protect patients + the measles outbreak has led to more than 200 reported cases on the South Plains.  Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
  • The Texas measles outbreak now affects 11 counties with 259 cases reported since January as schools start spring break, including new cases in Cochran and Lumar. Lubbock has recorded four cases with one new case and one school-aged child death as of March 14—health officials urge everyone at risk to get vaccinated.  Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Cucumber Chilton—a famous West Texas drink—began in Lubbock in the mid-1900s when Dr Chilton helped popularize it at the Country Club, and bartenders later added a cucumber twist to make it a refreshing summer option.  KKAM
