- ➤ Texas Tech University's President's Leadership Institute is hosting a food drive — supporting Raider Red's Pantry and Fostering the Future — during the Texas Tech vs. TCU baseball series at Dan Law Field. Donations were accepted Friday at 6:30 p.m., will be taken today at 2:00 p.m., and will be accepted Sunday at 1:00 p.m. KCBD
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire broke out at Rosa's Cafe at 5103 82nd Street on Thursday evening and Lubbock Fire Rescue crews quickly used the kitchen suppression system to control flames while a burning attic led to a public safety warning and the ansul system discharged its chemical, prompting the Health Department to be notified (there is no update on when the location will reopen). - ➤ A Taste of Ireland will bring world-class Irish dance and live music to The Buddy Holly Hall on April 21 (featuring champion performers such as Alliyah O’Hare) to showcase Ireland’s rich culture. The performance will include live music (with authentic instrument sounds) that will create a lively night for Lubbock audiences. KKAM
- ➤ Texas country singer Parker McCollum will perform at Lubbock’s United Supermarkets Arena on September 4 as part of his rebranded fall tour. Tickets go on sale March 28 at 10 a.m.—the tour features special guests and marks a return to his Red Dirt roots. KKAM

- ➤ A Lubbock resident claimed an anonymous $1 million win from a Texas Lottery scratch ticket purchased at Sonik Food Mart at 3908 Avenue Q—this win was the seventh top prize in the 500X game, which offers over $229 million in total prizes—adding to the game’s record of major payouts. KCBD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TxDOT said Slide Road at Loop 88 will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Monday, March 24 so crews can place beams for a new bridge as part of a $154.8 million project to convert FM 1585 into a six-lane freeway — southbound traffic will be detoured via Chicago Avenue and northbound via Quaker Avenue while work continues nightly until Saturday evening. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, the Texas Department of State Health Services reported that 309 measles cases have been confirmed in 14 counties in the South Plains—Gaines County has 211 cases along with 40 hospitalizations and one death. Officials warn more cases will appear in the coming weeks as the outbreak, which began in January, continues to spread. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
