ECONOMY NEWS

  • Texas gas prices have risen for a fourth week as Lubbock fuel remains at $3.28 while state averages edge closer to $4 per gallon. Experts say rising crude oil costs and increased summer demand will likely keep prices high statewide.  KKAM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Future health care workers at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center practiced mass casualty response in a simulated Disaster Day event held in Lubbock today. The exercise tested team decision-making under pressure — a key skill for handling real emergencies.  KCBD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews worked to contain the Bell Fire, which started Thursday afternoon in Dickens County, burned over 450 acres and reached 45% containment. Aircraft and firefighters from Dickens County, Floydada and Motley assisted while officials advised nearby residents to stay alert to shifting winds.  KCBD

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Panhandle Plains Chapter of the American Red Cross will host blood drives next week at Texas Tech SUB on Wednesday, Apr. 1 (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) and the YWCA on Thursday, Apr. 2 (12 p.m. – 6 p.m.) to help meet a critical blood need in the community.  FOX34
  • The American Red Cross will host two blood drives next week: Wednesday, April 1 at Texas Tech SUB from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday, April 2 at YWCA Lubbock from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Residents may donate blood or volunteer.  KCBD
  • Lubbock Animal Services was selected from over 100 applicants to receive $150,000 from the state to expand its spay and neuter voucher program, which will cover about 1,500 surgeries. The new vouchers will be available starting Oct. 1 at the Lubbock facility to help reduce stray animals.  KCBD
