  • Texas Tech advances to Elite 8 after beating Arkansas 85-83 in overtime and will face Florida at 5 p.m. tomorrow—emergency crews in east Lubbock safely contained a pesticide leak after a train collided with a semi. Robert Baker pleaded guilty to a fatal shooting near 19th and Quaker in November 2020.  KCBD
  • Today, the Science Spectrum and OMNI Theater host Severe Weather Awareness Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Organized by KCBD News Channel 11, Texas Tech student meteorologists, the National Weather Service and local storm researchers, the event features weather experiments, live electricity and lightning shows and film screenings to help families learn how to stay safe in severe weather—promising a fun, informative day.  KCBD
  • Local non-profit Lubbock Challenger Little League lost all its sporting gear—including adaptive equipment, announcing tools and trophies—and is asking for donations to replace the items ahead of its opening day on April 5; donated items can be dropped off at Bright Star Care off 68th and Aberdeen Avenue.  FOX34

HEALTH NEWS

  • On March 28, the Texas Department of State Health Services reported 400 measles cases and 41 hospitalizations in Lubbock since late January. Health officials warned that more cases will likely occur and urged residents to get two doses of the MMR vaccine—most patients had no record of vaccination.  KLBK
  • Texas health officials reported 70 new measles cases this week, raising the statewide total to 400 across 17 counties — including 23 cases in Lubbock, 13 new — and warned that more cases may appear in the coming weeks. Officials said 41 patients were hospitalized and one school-aged child died.  Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
