- ➤ Children’s Home of Lubbock is hosting An Evening with Shane & Shane on April 12 at Monterey Church of Christ to raise $100,000 for services that help abused and neglected children. The concert begins at 7 p.m. with tickets priced at $50 or $75 for a package that includes a meet-and-greet with the duo. KCBD
- ➤ Lubbock will host the First Friday Art Trail on Friday, April 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. The free event allows visitors to see art exhibits, support local vendors and food trucks, and enjoy the In Silico exhibition at the Buddy Holly Center—which runs until May 18. KLBK
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Brian “Tray” Anderson, 29, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison for fatally shooting 35-year-old Orion Akins at the Hub City Inn on Super Bowl Sunday in 2024—officers responded on February 11 around 7:49 p.m. after hearing shots fired on the 5200 Block of Avenue Q South Drive. - ➤ Lubbock Premiere announced a week of sensory-friendly screenings for World Autism Awareness Day — the screenings are set for those with sensory sensitivities to enjoy films comfortably, with Snow White on Monday at 4:35 p.m., today’s showing of The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie at 4:50 p.m. and another on Wednesday at 4:50 p.m. KLBK

- ➤ Lubbock special education students and people with disabilities will attend Disability Mentoring Day at Region 17 on April 3 to learn about job help and fair work accommodations. Wellpoint Texas and Texas Workforce Solutions Vocational Rehabilitation have set up job shadow visits at local sites like One Guys Pizza, Quarter Four, and Brandability—giving students hands-on work experience. - ➤ Lubbock Compact announced that it will host the People’s Public Education Town Hall on April 8th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the YWCA so citizens can share their views on public school funding and vouchers — three local elected officials have been invited and the event will be livestreamed on Facebook. - ➤ The City of Lubbock announced City Council will honor selected community members, employees and organizations today at 3:30 p.m. during a Special Recognition Ceremony in the City Council Chambers at Citizens Tower (1314 Avenue K). The event is open to the public and will be broadcast live on Optimum Channel 2. KLBK
- ➤ The Texas Department of Public Safety in Lubbock reported an increase in drivers not wearing seatbelts last spring and summer, and Lieutenant Johnny Bures said that about half of fatal crashes were linked to this behavior with fines ranging from ($200 to $500) for offenders. DPS urged drivers to buckle up to help keep roads safer for everyone. KLBK
