ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 19-year-old from Hale Center was killed in a crash on SH70 six miles south of Sweetwater around 2 p.m. Monday when his vehicle left the road—crash investigators said it tumbled down an embankment and struck multiple trees. FOX34
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Outlaw Egg Rolls, a Lubbock food truck sold by retired military Clark Brazil (who wanted to keep his food truck alive), was purchased by a local family including doctor Keeley Hobart, her husband Chris, and relatives Brock, Heather, and Connor Pascoe who revived the business with a new edible marker design (to help identify flavors for allergic customers). The truck participated in the First Friday Art Trail on April 1 and the team plans to keep the business running as Brock prepares to retire from the military. KLBK
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock police investigated a pursuit that began just before 1:30 a.m. on Apr. 1 and ended two minutes later when the suspect vehicle crashed into a building at 82nd and Quaker — the driver was taken to UMC with moderate injuries. FOX34
- ➤ A 19-year-old was indicted by a Lubbock grand jury for manslaughter in connection to the Feb. 21 robbery that left a 28-year-old woman dead on the 1900 block of 21st St—police also charged a 27-year-old man with tampering with physical evidence. KCBD
- ➤ Ariyah Jimenez, 19, was indicted by a Lubbock grand jury for manslaughter after a reported robbery on Feb. 21 that left 28-year-old Brittany Blakely dead—police also indicted 27-year-old Nathaniel Moreno for tampering with evidence related to the alleged altercation leading to her shooting. - ➤ A grand jury indicted Ariyah Jimenez for manslaughter and Nathaniel Moreno for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence in connection with the fatal shooting of Brittany Blakely on February 21—both remain held on a murder charge with a $250,000 bond—after a fight led to a 911 call with mixed details. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Today, Lubbock Power and Light said that the switch to a competitive electric market worked well after one year with about 40 providers offering prices similar to last year and even better deals for some customers. The utility plans to lower its transmission and delivery fees as it upgrades its grid and urges month-to-month customers to lock in their rates before summer usage rises. KCBD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews are hanging beams for a new bridge at Indiana Ave. and Loop 88 in south Lubbock as part of the nearly $155-million TxDOT project to widen FM 1585 from a two-lane roadway into a six-lane divided freeway with frontage roads (the intersection is closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.). Traffic will detour until crews return to place the deck and pave the main lanes, a process that will take several months. FOX34
- ➤ Speaker Dustin Burrows discussed wildfire safety and proposals to change Education Savings Accounts during his House session on April 1—remarks linked to last year’s Panhandle wildfires—and he also addressed school finance bills in an interview with KCBD. KCBD
