COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 83rd annual ABC Pro Rodeo is underway at the Mallet Event Center in Levelland and supports the Lubbock Boys and Girls Club (serving about 400 kids daily) with family-friendly rodeo events. The event runs through Saturday.  KCBD

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Lubbock renters saw a 1.02% rent increase from 2025 to 2026, moving from $1,374 to $1,388 a month while other cities experienced different trends. The modest rise marks nearly 18% growth over the past five years in the Hub City.  KKAM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wolfforth Library librarian Taylor Revilla was honored with the prestigious Siddie Joe Johnson Award for her 13 years of work promoting literacy and free children’s programming. Revilla said she plans to expand community events as Wolfforth grows — her dedication to learning continues to shine.  FOX34
  • A Shallowater High School senior, Paige Holloway (recognized for her leadership and academic performance), was awarded the C.J. Davidson Scholarship which provides $18,000 for her future in pharmacy school and makes her one of 10 statewide recipients.  FOX34
  • Slaton ISD is asking voters to approve over $50 million in bonds for facility upgrades and a new elementary school. The two measures—valued at $51 million for school renovations and $2.8 million for football stadium upgrades—will fund classroom expansions, safety improvements, and athletic facility enhancements.  FOX34
  • Slaton ISD is asking voters to approve over $50 million in bonds for a new elementary school, additional classrooms, and facility security upgrades in Slaton. The bonds will also fund athletic fields and stadium improvements + enhancements for baseball, softball, track, tennis, and football.  KCBD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Shallowater say the drinking water contains 36 mg/L of combined uranium, which exceeds the EPA limit yet is not an emergency. The city will retest raw water wells and inspect plant equipment while advising residents with concerns to consult a doctor.  FOX34
  • A dust storm is expected to sweep through West Texas today — health officials warn residents to stay indoors as fine particles may trigger breathing issues and heart strain. Local updates will guide precautions during the storm.  KKAM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Following the expiration of the TTUHSC contract on March 31, Covenant Health announced it will accept most UnitedHealthcare plans so that patients who lost in-network access can continue care at its local facilities while Texas Tech Physicians remains available with possible higher costs.  KCBD
