- ➤ Catholic Charities of Lubbock offered Lego-themed activities on Friday at Guadalupe Early Learning Center to launch Child Abuse Prevention Month and is providing free programs (Family and Youth Success, Parent Empowerment, Kinship Navigation) to support local children and families. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On March 12, Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a call at Texas Tech when a natural gas leak caused green flames, explosions, and power outages that forced campus evacuations—documents show that crews measured high levels of methane and toxic gases while Atmos Energy and Lubbock Power & Light shut off utilities. - ➤ Alec Mendoza, 26, from Lubbock pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl and was sentenced Friday to life in federal prison by U.S. District Judge James Wesley Hendrix — he abused the child for over two years. KLBK

- ➤ Texas Tech University will host two events next week to help students, parents and educators prepare for an AI-driven future. AI strategist Amy Love will lead sessions that focus on using technology to build skills needed for future work. KCBD
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Texas Department of State Health Services reported 481 measles cases in the South Plains and Panhandle as of Friday, April 4, with 33 cases in Lubbock County and several cases confirmed at Tiny Tots daycare. One unvaccinated school-aged child died and officials urged residents to complete their two-dose MMR vaccine to help prevent further spread. KLBK
- ➤ Tiny Tots U Learning Academy (13706 University Ave) reported several measles cases and has sent all unvaccinated children home for 21 days while working with the Lubbock Health Department to slow the outbreak. The CDC reported 607 confirmed cases in 22 states, with most hospitalizations in children under 5 and one measles death in Texas. KFYO
- ➤ A measles outbreak was reported at Tiny Tots U Learning Academy in Lubbock after several children who had not gotten all their shots got sick— the center stayed open but sent unvaccinated kids home for 21 days while it worked with the Lubbock Health Department to stop the spread. KKAM
