- ➤ On Saturday afternoon, South Plains Electric Cooperative reported scattered power outages in Lubbock at 1:30 p.m.—crews worked quickly and safely to restore power in affected areas. An update on the Shallowater outage was provided at 12:45 p.m.—teams remain in the field to bring power back for all customers. KLBK

- ➤ Peter Piper Pizza, a popular national chain, will open its first Lubbock restaurant at the old Furr's Cafeteria site (6001 Slide Road) with construction set to begin in July and a planned opening in March 2026. KKAM
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Monterey High School football coach Judd Thrash was arrested on Saturday after a single-vehicle crash near 130th Street and Quaker that led to DWI and failure to leave information charges—his combined bond was set at $2,500. KCBD
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, Lubbock experienced snow flurries with 1.5 inches of accumulation. The National Weather Service warned that up to 4 inches could fall across the Caprock and advised drivers to exercise caution for possible black ice on roads on Sunday morning. KLBK
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday morning, 285 protesters (a large turnout) gathered in Lubbock to protest federal funding cuts, education reforms and changes to veterans benefits amid rain and April snow. Local special education teachers and community organizers said they joined the demonstration to stand up for democracy and public services. The Daily Toreader
