- ➤ Refuge Services will host its 16th Annual Boots & Buckles Benefit on April 12 at 6:00 p.m. at Texas Tech Frazier Alumni Pavilion— a venue for community events— where steak dinners, live music and auctions will support equine therapy for veterans and at-risk youth. The event aims to nearly double last year's $85,000 by raising close to $150,000. KKAM
- ➤ Lubbock’s 20th Annual Golf for Kids’ Sake—supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock—will start on April 25th with a kickoff concert at SERVPRO’s headquarters at 7477 County Road 7000 where doors open at 6 p.m. and will continue on May 2nd with a tournament at Lakeridge Country Club with all proceeds benefiting local kids. - ➤ Lubbock Compact Foundation is hosting a public education town hall today at the Sun—N Fun Center near 62nd St and Elgin from 6–8 p.m. to let the community share views on public school funding and vouchers with state leaders. FOX34
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, Lubbock Public Health updated MMR vaccine guidelines after a measles outbreak led to a second child death reported on Sunday, urging families in many counties to check their records. Walk-in clinics are available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday from Noon to 3:00 p.m. (clinic hours) as officials work to curb the outbreak. KLBK
- ➤ After a major blood drive cancellation left hospitals short of supplies, Vitalant is urging local residents to donate blood — its partners at South Plains Mall and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Frankford will host drives on Wednesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., and donors will receive a free movie ticket and popcorn. - ➤ From now until Sunday, $1 from every large drink purchased at 7 Brew in Lubbock will be donated to UMC Children’s Hospital to fund specialized equipment for child patients. FOX34
- ➤ Public Health Director Dr. Katherine Wells warned that six children at Tiny Tots U Learning Academy have tested positive for measles, a situation she had hoped to avoid because unvaccinated and partly vaccinated kids are at risk. Day care centers are urged to work with parents to keep sick children home and raise vaccination rates to protect vulnerable groups. FOX34
