- ➤ Refuge Services will hold its 16th Annual Boots & Buckles Benefit on Saturday, April 12 at Texas Tech Frazier Alumni Pavilion starting at 6 p.m. The event seeks to raise $150,000 to support equine therapy programs for children, veterans, and families after raising about $85,000 last year and will feature dinner, live music, and auctions. - ➤ Community members and local organizations in Lubbock are building playhouses for the Casas for CASA fundraiser to raise funds that will train volunteers to serve foster children (abused and neglected in the area). High Point Village, a group for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is helping with the project to show that every minute of volunteering can make a life-changing difference. - ➤ In April, local groups including the South Plains Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention, Lubbock Chamber, and local officials are leading the Go Blue Lubbock County campaign to raise child abuse awareness in our community. Residents are urged to wear blue and join events, and the 12th Annual Child Abuse Conference at Covenant Children’s Hospital will take place on April 26th—efforts that focus on protecting our children. - ➤ A child was fatally injured by shots fired in East Lubbock on Wednesday—Lubbock Police are investigating the incident. KLBK
- ➤ Police report that 22-year-old Ethan Flores is accused of killing 25-year-old Nathan Griggs at an apartment complex near 130th Street and Memphis Avenue on Monday night and that a chase across Lubbock, Crosby, Garza and Kent counties ended when he crashed in Post. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced his U.S. Senate bid on Monday — with Lubbock Police Academy recruits finishing physical training and Mothers Against Drunk Driving hosting activities for National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. - ➤ Los Hermanos Familia announced its 12th annual Cinco de Mayo parade will be held on May 3 at First Baptist Church with the theme 'Mexican Loteria Party, Fiesta Loteria' and will start at 10 a.m. The parade will follow a route from Broadway and Avenue U east on Broadway and then north on Avenue M—community groups, veterans, schools and marching bands are invited to participate. - ➤ Gabriel Iglesias will perform his 'Don't Worry Be Fluffy' tour this Friday at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock — the doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.; a 'Too Fast, Too Fluffy' ticket giveaway runs until Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. with the winner picking up tickets by 2:00 p.m. KFYO

- ➤ TxDOT and the Ports-to-Plains Alliance will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 14 at 1:30 p.m.—celebrating the official designation of a new 4.2-mile I-27 segment in Lubbock that meets interstate standards.
