ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 44-year-old motorcycle rider (Colby Grant Jolley) died in Terry County on Thursday morning at 7:10 a.m. when a Chevrolet Silverado turned into a parking lot on SH 137 near Dawson Street and hit his motorcycle, and DPS said the Silverado driver was not hurt.  KCBD

CRIME NEWS

  • A four-year-old boy died after suffering a gunshot wound in the 2900 block of East Bates Street on Wednesday evening—police arrested 26-year-old Isaiah Holland after he left the room where family members were present.  FOX34

CULTURE NEWS

  • Phat Cat Swinger, a band known from Disney theme parks, will perform at the Cactus Theater tomorrow night—playing a mix of old favorites and new tunes for Lubbock audiences.  FOX34

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lubbock Cooper High School senior Joseph Aguirre received a $48,000 full-tuition scholarship from the University of Texas earlier this month—an honor awarded to only 60 students annually—for his leadership in varsity tennis, Spanish club, and National Honor Society, and he will attend UT this fall to study Kinesiology and Exercise Science.  KCBD
  • Leprino Foods Company and local nonprofit S.T.O.P. reached an agreement that will benefit the community by funding 501(c)(3) projects and developing a work-study program for high school students. A joint community meeting is scheduled on April 12 at the Mae Simmons Senior Center (9:30 a.m.) and a job fair will follow there (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).  KLBK

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two restaurants in Lubbock—Ground Zero and Cesiah’s Panaderia—closed for 24 hours this week after an inspection found safety violations like unsafe food temperatures and unsanitary conditions; both reopened once their issues were corrected. A third low performer, District 1 King Claw & Lounge, was also noted for multiple health violations that were largely fixed during the inspection.  FOX34
  • Today, 783 pinwheels have been planted around Lubbock to represent confirmed child abuse cases from 2024 as healthcare workers and advocates work to raise community awareness (the pinwheel has been used nationally since 2008). Dr. Kami Rogers of University Medical Center said roughly three children are abused daily and urged everyone to learn the warning signs (early detection helps protect children).  KLBK
