ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house in Idalou on the 8100 block of East County Road 5970 caught fire at 1:00 a.m. Sunday and the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office along with several fire departments quickly responded—by 3:45 a.m. the fire was out, everyone including two dogs was safely evacuated, and investigators are still determining the cause.  KLBK
  • Overnight, a single-story home in the 8100 block of East County Road 5970 was destroyed by a large fire that started around 1 a.m. and was fully extinguished by 3:45 a.m.—all occupants and two dogs escaped safely as fire officials and local fire departments investigate the cause.  KCBD

  • Local experts say many Lubbock mom-and-pop shops fail by expanding too quickly—often opening new locations without proper advertising. They advise owners to review every step carefully before signing leases or investing further.  KFYO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Representative Jodey Arrington opposed the plan to expand Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge during a recent hearing and introduced H.R. 839 to block the move that would grow the refuge from 6,440 acres to nearly 7 million acres — he said the expansion wastes tax dollars and harms landowner rights — while local groups and cattle raisers voiced their concerns.  KKAM

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 540 measles cases and two child deaths have hit Texas as long-term low funding and recent federal cuts left vaccine programs weak, with experts warning that fewer shots may lead to more outbreaks. Lubbock’s health department faces job cuts — seven positions are at risk because its grant has not grown in 15 years even as costs have risen.  KLBK
