  • Green Lawn Blessing Center, a ministry of Green Lawn Church of Christ, offers free clothing, food, hygiene items and household goods at 5072 19th Street with 20-minute shopping sessions. It is open Mondays from 1 to 3, Thursdays from 9 to 11 and second and fourth Saturdays from 10 to noon—families need only show a photo ID and share basic income information—and ministry leader Santiago Rodriguez said rising prices have pushed more families to seek help.  KCBD

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews responded to a structure fire in central Lubbock near 18th Street and Ave. B just before 7:30 a.m. on April 16th; firefighters evacuated all personnel from the building (it is the second fire at this location) and reported no injuries.  KCBD

  • Tom's Tree Place, a local business established in 1950, is marking its 75th anniversary on Saturday, April 19 with family-friendly events starting at 10:00 a.m.—the celebration will feature an Easter egg hunt and lunch as community members gather to honor the long-time local staple.  KKAM

  • Lubbock police are asking for help finding 38-year-old Victor Janez, who is considered armed+dangerous in connection with an April 14th shooting on Clovis Road that left 28-year-old Joshua Rios dead.  KKAM
  • The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office reported that two people were found dead in a home late Tuesday night near the 7000 block of CR 6100—officers also assisted with traffic after a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle on HWY 114 at about 9:50 p.m.  FOX34

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas DPS reminds all drivers that if you do not get your REAL ID by May 7th, you will not be allowed to board domestic flights or enter secure federal buildings. Drivers without a compliant license should schedule an appointment at their local driver license office before their current card expires.  FOX34

HEALTH NEWS

  • TTUHSC will host Lubbock's annual Spring Medication Cleanout on Saturday, April 19th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Texas Tech Physicians Medical Pavilion at 3601 Fourth St—residents can use the free drive-thru to safely drop off unused medications and sharps in their original containers.  KCBD
