  • The Chuckwagon Benefit at Red Barn Ranch will be held Saturday, May 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 18311 County Road 1640 in Wolfforth. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for dancing, dinner + family fun, with music by Danny Cadra + the Fifth Wheel.  KCBD

CULTURE NEWS

  • Buddy Holly Hall will host four Broadway premieres—Waitress from Nov. 20 to 22, The Beautiful Noise from Dec. 18 to 20, The Bodyguard from Jan. 29 to 31, and Kinky Boots from May 7 to 9—bringing live musicals to a local venue. Season memberships are now available.  KFYO
  • Ralph’s Records in Lubbock is hosting Record Store Day today with exclusive vinyl drops and a two-dollar discount on used vinyl, CDs, and DVDs. Fans should arrive early (at 82nd and Indiana) to secure rare titles.  KFYO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Texas wildlife experts advise not to interfere with orphaned animals because letting nature take its course protects them. Residents who find stray fawns or out-of-place birds in Lubbock should call Lubbock Animal Services—only stepping in when an animal is clearly in danger.  KFYO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texans can save on emergency supplies during the state's tax holiday from April 25 to 27. Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock said qualifying items, including batteries, flashlights, and portable generators, will be tax free to help residents prepare for severe weather.  Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
  • Lubbock pools remain closed this summer due to costly repairs, but splash pads at Mae Simmons, Rodgers and Maxey Park open Friday, May 1. Councilwoman Christy Martinez Garcia is discussing a bond to build an aquatic center + expand splash pad access for quality-of-life improvements.  KFYO

HEALTH NEWS

  • StarCare in Lubbock offers tips on talking with loved ones who show warning signs of suicide. The provider, which serves five west Texas counties, offers 24/7 support by calling (8067401414) and advises asking direct questions to help those in crisis.  FOX34
  • The new UMC TLC2 Foundation Cancer Center will open on Monday, Apr. 20 at the UMC Main Campus, offering cancer care, research and support services for patients. The facility spans over 120,000 sqft (three times the previous space) and was developed with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.  KFYO
  • Sharon Fitch from Lubbock found peace by donating her son Matthew's organs after he died at 41 and gained comfort when a lung recipient thanked her family. The recipient plans to meet the family next month (a sign that his lifesaving gift continues to help others).  KCBD
