- ➤ Lubbock leaders are planning a tortilla throwing contest inspired by Texas Tech traditions to try and beat the world record of 119 feet set by a teen in Minnesota — the contest is scheduled for next football season. KFYO

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers in Lubbock should expect nighttime lane closures on the 50th Street bridge at I-27 next week due to ongoing maintenance work + detours will be set up along alternate routes. At 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, the westbound lanes will close and later work on the eastbound lanes will begin + drivers will be directed via the northbound frontage road and US 84 frontage route. - ➤ Today at Texas Tech University, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins met with local farmers, educators and students in Lubbock to discuss current challenges in agriculture. The event (supported by House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington) aimed to highlight national efforts to strengthen rural America. KKAM
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock Public Health announced that its MMR vaccine clinic will extend its hours starting Tuesday, April 22 through May 3. The new schedule offers Tuesday 1:00–6:30 p.m., Wednesday 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., Thursday 1:00–6:30 p.m. and Saturday 12:00–3:00 p.m. while no clinic will be held on the Easter holiday weekend. KCBD
- ➤ Today, Lubbock Public Health urged parents to have infants as young as six months receive the MMR vaccine, and police confirmed that 22-year-old Victor Yanez, accused of fatally shooting Joshua Rios in north Lubbock, surrendered—while a judge postponed the re-sentencing hearing for Lyle and Erik Menendez pending a risk report. - ➤ Covenant Medical Center is on diversion now because of a water main break and is continuing to care for admitted patients. The city is working to restore services while imaging and ambulance services will remain on diversion until operations return to normal and emergency centers on Quaker and Milwaukee Avenues stay open.
