COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Supermarkets partnered with Lubbock ISD for its Earth Day art contest where hundreds of paper bags were donated for students to decorate — one student's artwork will be featured in stores.  FOX34
  • Lubbock volunteers cleaned parks and lakesides on Earth Day — their effort removed layers of buried trash and showcased local pride in keeping neighborhoods beautiful.  FOX34

BUSINESS NEWS

  • El Pollo Loco will open this spring at 7102 Quaker Ave offering fire-grilled chicken and Mexican-inspired sides. The restaurant (formerly Wienerschnitzel) is expected to complete remodeling soon to serve local families a healthier meal option.  KKAM
  • Dreamers Bistro at 1001 University has served K Dogs and bubble waffles for four years and is now for sale as the owner plans to move abroad by year-end. The business remains open and turnkey with rent set at $3,000 monthly for a 3000 sqft space (below market rate).  KKAM

CULTURE NEWS

  • George Strait will perform two shows at Jones AT&T Stadium on Friday and Saturday — local authorities have boosted police presence around the concert venues to keep everyone safe. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that extra officers will patrol the area throughout the weekend.  KFYO
  • George Strait will perform on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 at Jones AT&T Stadium with opening acts each day. Extra police support & shuttle services along with rideshare pick-up at Memorial Circle at 2500 Broadway ensure smooth access as gates open at 4:15 p.m. and tickets remain available.  KFYO
  • Home Plate Diner once brought families and youth sports teams together with hearty comfort food in Lubbock until its multiple locations closed around 2014. Residents still recall its unique vibe and wonder if a similar spot might emerge again.  KKAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Lubbock will hold four public meetings at Maggie Trejo Supercenter to discuss the Arnett Benson Neighborhood Plan. The first meeting on neighborhood assets is today at 6 p.m. (later sessions will focus on code issues, commercial areas and additional topics).  KKAM

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Lubbock Health Department Prevention Resource Center and Voice of Hope hosted a trauma care education session on Wednesday to help residents learn about recognizing trauma signs, physical and emotional impacts, and self-care strategies (including noticing behavior changes) to support neighbors.  KCBD
  • UMC Children’s Hospital hosted the 28th annual Administrative Professionals Day luncheon at Texas Roadhouse Wednesday, where teams competed in a pep rally and activities to raise local funds for pediatric care — benefiting children across West Texas and eastern New Mexico.  FOX34
