  • Cast Iron Grill at 620 19th St in Lubbock switched from seed oils to beef tallow for frying after a four-week trial with its suppliers, and local customers praised the enhanced flavor — many said the change improved the taste of their meals.  KFYO

CRIME NEWS

  • The Lubbock County Detention Center holds 45 individuals accused of murder or manslaughter, including 8 new faces since January—some are as young as 17 while one man with a previous conviction in 1996 is now accused of a recent murder—with all cases pending.  KKAM

  • Lubbock Police will hold a memorial service for Officer John Barber Saturday, May 3 at 11 a.m.—he served for 18 years as a detective and mounted patrol officer—at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.  KCBD
  • Lubbock Police announced a memorial service for Officer John H. Barber, who served 18 years as a detective and Mounted Patrol member and created Texas Tech Masked Rider halters. The service will be held Saturday, May 3rd at 11 a.m. at Lubbock Memorial Civic Center (it will honor his long dedication to law enforcement).  FOX34

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas Tech announced a $1.3 billion plan to renovate United Supermarkets Arena that will add a new 360-degree scoreboard, retractable roof and world-class performance center for players. The upgrade will boost seating to 22,500 and include luxury suites and a student lounge to enhance game day experiences.  KFYO
