CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A person was found deceased near Ervin Elementary School on Thursday morning, and Lubbock police confirmed the individual had hanged themself near the playground while investigators treated the case as a suicide with no interruption to school operations. KLBK
- ➤ Lubbock police and the medical examiner investigated early Thursday morning after a body was found near the Ervin Elementary School playground—school officials said there was no threat to students and classes resumed as planned. KCBD
- ➤ Skylar Beach, a 10-year-old girl, was last seen wearing a navy blue shirt, pink shorts and red Converse at 5:00 p.m. on April 30 in Hamlin (500 block of NW Avenue G) and police are searching for Terry Jeter, 43 (a white male in a black shirt and blue jeans riding a black 2002 Suzuki Motorcycle with TX plate 138A4V) as she is believed to be in grave danger. - ➤ Lubbock’s Star Comics is celebrating Free Comic Book Day all month by giving away free comics every Saturday in May—an idea born from the shop’s desire to welcome its loyal fans after the pandemic. Owner Robert Mora, who has run the store since 1999, said the event will feature over 40 unique comic titles—bringing together longtime and new comic enthusiasts. KLBK

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Texas DPS now issues driver's licenses with a gold star (a sign of meeting REAL ID requirements) and starting May 7, 2025, passengers without the star will need extra approved ID to fly out of Rick Husband International Airport and other Texas airports. Drivers should check the upper right-hand corner of their card and visit the DMV for a new license if it lacks the star. KKAM

- ➤ EverythingLubbock.com released a map showing confirmed measles exposure sites in Lubbock and the South Plains, listing Walmart at 4215 S. Loop 289 (Feb 19) and Target at 7302 University Ave (Feb 20) as part of tracking the West Texas measles outbreak that had 663 reported cases by April 29.
