COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Family will donate 10,560 pounds of apples to South Plains Food Bank on Thursday as part of its 15-year support for the Take a Bite Out of Hunger program. More than 50,000 pounds of apples will be distributed to food banks & other groups across Texas and New Mexico this week.  KCBD

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Lubbock Fire Rescue responded at 10:30 a.m. to a crash on I-27 and Yucca Lane—two semi trucks and a passenger vehicle collided and closed all northbound frontage lanes and the Yucca bridge overpass, with injuries unknown.  KCBD

CRIME NEWS

  • Mary Jane Arzola (20) was arrested on Sunday for aggravated assault at Cowpokes in Lubbock after she struck a woman in the head with a crowbar during a fight that left the victim bleeding heavily; police later found her in a pickup truck and she is held on a $50,000 bond.  KLBK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, a Lubbock judge ordered the demolition of two dangerous multi-family properties at 1809 Avenue S and 1906 Dixie Drive within 30 days after code inspectors reported repeated fires, disrepair, and squatting—while the owner's attorney inquired if a deal with the city could halt the order.  FOX34
  • A judge ordered two multi-family properties—owned by Austin Hughes—to be torn down within the next 30 days after inspectors reported dangers at 1809 Avenue S and 1906 Dixie Drive in Lubbock. The orders come after repeated code violations, fires, and unchecked disrepair raised serious safety concerns.  KCBD
  • Lubbock County first responders will honor fallen officers from Lubbock police, Texas Tech Police, Lubbock Fire Rescue, the sheriff’s office, and DPS at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lubbock Regional Public Safety Memorial near 66th St. & Quaker Ave.  FOX34
  • Today and May 17, the City of Lubbock Solid Waste Department is hosting its Move Out Give Back program to help students and residents donate gently used furniture, appliances, storage bins and other household goods so they do not illegally dump them. Two drop-off sites — next to the LP&L Substation on Elgin and 29th Street and at First Baptist Church on 13th Street and Avenue V — will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.  KCBD
