  • The annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive brings volunteers, the Salvation Army, USPS, and Affordable Moving together in Lubbock to collect nonperishable food for families facing food insecurity while contributions are picked up and delivered to the food pantry.  FOX34
  • The Lubbock VA Clinic is hosting the 16th National VA2K Walk & Roll Event on Thursday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its front parking lot at 3510 4th Street — a free event designed to support homeless veterans with donations of food and clothing.  KLBK
  • South Plains Young Marines is hosting a car wash fundraiser today at the American Legion from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise money for a unit encampment at Copper Breaks State Park and other youth training events. Tickets cost $5 (available online or in person).  KCBD
  • On May 11, 1970, an F5 tornado struck Lubbock, causing 26 fatalities, over 1,500 injuries, and about $250 million in damage (the community responded with remarkable unity); one survivor recalls the night's terror and how neighbors helped each other during that historic storm.  KLBK

  • On Friday morning, the City of Lubbock Water Department reported a water main break near 50th & Upland Ave after a contractor hit a 12-inch line; crews isolated the leak and began repairs around 8:30 a.m.  KLBK
