- ➤ The Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market starts Saturday, May 23, at LHUCA Plaza, offering produce, artisanal goods, and crafts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will run every Saturday until Oct. 24. KKAM
- ➤ Lubbock residents are urging local donors to build a public pool this summer following the demolition of Maxey Pool—a simple facility to help kids and families beat the heat. They say the pool will offer a safe, community space for play. KFYO
- ➤ The fourth annual Showdown at the Jones will take place on June 4 at 6 p.m. at the south end zone at Jones AT&T Stadium, where chefs will compete to create dishes using ingredients from South Plains Food Bank boxes—an event aimed at fighting hunger in our community. KCBD
- ➤ Lubbock attorney Bob Craig celebrates 50 years of legal service after beginning his practice in 1976 and representing clients with dedication. His community work includes roles on the ISD Board of Trustees and the State Board of Education (a milestone recognized this year). KCBD

- ➤ Monterey High School seniors honor their friend Kobe Alonzo (18), who died in a fireworks accident in January, as his family will host a 5K on Sunday, May 17 to raise a scholarship in his memory. FOX34
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rose Torres and her son Sunny will graduate from Texas Tech University this weekend (joining three other family members who earned degrees from the school) after years of hard work. Sunny will soon attend state trooper academy in Austin to launch his law enforcement career. FOX34
- ➤ Wayland Baptist University will hold its Spring 2026 commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at Hutcherson Center on its Plainview campus (114 graduates, including local and international students). University President Donna Hedgepath will confer degrees while Lubbock trustee Noe Valles delivers the address. KCBD
- ➤ Texas Tech University named Seth Porter as its new dean of University Libraries; he will start his role on August 1, 2026 (after serving as dean at the University of Colorado) to support student research and teaching. KLBK
- ➤ Texas Tech University’s ON&ON campaign has raised over $1 billion to create 600+ new scholarship endowments and fund construction projects for college facilities starting this summer, boosting opportunities for students and growth in West Texas. KCBD
