ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Jorge Cervantes, a 20-year-old from Plainview, died after his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic on SH 194 near County Road O in Hale County on May 17—Christian Villegas, 29 from Dimmit, was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock with serious injuries. KLBK
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ KFYO polled Lubbock residents online to see if the city lacks key restaurants or if dining options are too many. Lubbock Chamber data shows 131 dining spots and 46 closures in 2024—residents added ideas on what new types they want in their neighborhoods. KKAM
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A Hard Rock Bet report shows that Texas ranks fourth for the best brunch as its famous breakfast tacos attract local fans — the study used social media, search trends and the number of brunch spots to rank all 50 states. KKAM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hodges Elementary—opened in 1952 and serving generations of students—closed for good as former students and staff said farewell. Principal Matthew Bickley said the school’s spirit will continue to live on in everyone connected to it. KCBD

- ➤ Ticks in Lubbock may carry illnesses like Lyme disease and cause symptoms such as fever, headache, and muscle aches—Veterinary Clinic of Lubbock advises residents and pet owners to update tick prevention and check themselves and their pets after outdoor activities—using clean tweezers for proper removal and warm soapy water to clean the bite area.
