COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Because of rain chances, CASA of the South Plains has moved its Casas for CASA raffle drawing indoors to its office off the South Loop near Quaker. Online ticket sales run until 9 a.m. today and in-person sales take place at Market Street from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  KCBD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Texas Cafe (3604 50th St) now offers dedicated motorcycle parking spots that let local bikers park safely, while the restaurant invites riders to enjoy a cold drink and a slice and reminds drivers to check for bikes on the road.  KFYO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lubbock County will host its free High Noon Concert Series every Wednesday from June to August at the courthouse located at 904 Broadway, where local musicians perform, food trucks serve guests, and two $50 cash prize drawings occur during the 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. concerts.  KCBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State and federal leaders broke ground on the new Reese National Security Complex in west Lubbock Tuesday, a project by Texas Tech aimed at enhancing cybersecurity and industry partnerships + it will support research and workforce training to protect local infrastructure.  KCBD
  • Lubbock city officials are dealing with a 13% fuel cost increase as they have spent $2.8 million of a $5.3 million budget so far; fleet operations monitor daily quotes + adjust purchase timing to try avoiding a budget overrun.  KCBD

HEALTH NEWS

  • Parents gathered Tuesday at the Lubbock Health Department for the Watch UR BAC program organized by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension to learn about youth drug trends and how over-the-counter items (like vape pens and nitrous oxide containers) can affect health.  KCBD
  • Dr. Becca Bridge from Hub City Vet advises pet owners on ways to keep their animals cool during high heat. She recommends moving pets indoors or to shade, offering fresh water, and cooling them with wet towels (especially for flat-faced breeds prone to overheating).  KLBK
