- ➤ Saint Francis Ministries held a poverty simulation training today at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Lubbock to show community leaders how hard life is for low-income families—93% of the families they serve struggle to pay for basic needs. - ➤ Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez, killed in a crash in September 2024 when a driver was texting and speeding on State Highway 302, was honored today by his family and Governor Greg Abbott at the DPS Fallen Officer Memorial outside the state Capitol while authorities hold driver Laura Lorena-Rodriguez on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Construction workers on Loop 88 found a fossil tooth that experts say may be from a giant ground sloth that lived 2.6 million years ago—an animal that stood 9 feet tall and weighed 550 pounds. The Museum of Texas Tech University works with paleontologists to study the find and will search for more fossils—adding to what we know about life during the ice age. KKAM
