COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, firefighters—public works staff and animal services—and Amazon workers rescued a dog trapped in a north Lubbock sewer drain at the Amazon Fulfillment Facility. The dog, named Prime, was found healthy but scared, and its owners have two more days to claim it before it goes up for adoption. KCBD
- ➤ A dog stuck in a sewer drain near the new Amazon Fulfillment Facility off East Hunter Street was rescued yesterday after Lubbock Fire and Rescue, Heavy Rescue, Public Works and Animal Services worked together— the pup will soon be available for adoption if not claimed. KFYO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock ISD announced that starting May 27 free breakfast and lunch will be available for all children under 18 at six meal sites and nine Grab and Go locations—meals will run until July 31 with no registration or ID required except from June 30 to July 3, and food is provided by the South Plains Food Bank and Lubbock National Bank. - ➤ Lubbock-Cooper High School graduate Javon Rosemond had his graduation extra special last night when his Navy Airman brother — Donovon Yacub — surprised him at the United Supermarkets Arena. He said the surprise, after more than nine months apart, made his milestone day even more memorable. KCBD
- ➤ Lubbock-area high school seniors are holding graduation ceremonies this week at United Supermarkets Arena, with Lubbock High School scheduled for today at 6:00 p.m. Livestreams are offered for those who cannot attend and entry follows strict rules (including a clear bag policy and designated parking options) to manage crowd and safety. - ➤ A Lubbock wellness store owner said Senate Bill 3 will force her to close her business by banning hemp products that many residents use for pain relief. She warned that the change may cost jobs and push customers to unregulated alternatives—she and other store owners are now gathering petitions to urge Governor Abbott to block the bill. KLBK

- ➤ Covenant Children’s raised $900,000 during its Weekend of Giving to fund women’s services and improve maternal care by buying equipment like imaging devices, blood infusers, and transfusion monitors (the money was raised at the Storyteller’s Concert and Celebrity Golf Tournament featuring Texas Tech football coach Joey McGuire and his wife, Debbie).
