COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Lubbock Public Library announced a series of events beginning Tuesday, May 27 for all ages (including PBS Kids Storytime, knit sessions, film screenings and craft activities) while branches remain closed on Memorial Day, May 26, and regular hours resume the following day. KLBK
- ➤ On Sunday, May 25, United Express & Market Street Express fuel stations will launch a donate-at-the-register campaign that runs through June 7 to raise funds for Special Olympics. Guests can add any extra dollar amount to their bill at checkout to support local programs. KCBD
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Emergency crews responded just after 8:30 a.m. on May 23 to a rollover on US 87 at East FM 41 in south Lubbock County that seriously injured one person who was taken to a local hospital. FOX34
- ➤ One person was seriously injured in an overnight crash on the 5700 block of Marsha Sharp Freeway in west Lubbock at 1:00 a.m. Friday. Texas Tech Softball beat Florida State 3 to 0 in game one of the NCAA Super Regional while police urged parents to watch teens’ social media use as summer break began. KCBD
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Arieon Keller, a local musician from Pampa, has been invited to audition for American Idol live auditions in Nashville during CMA Fest and is considering several song choices as she pursues her lifelong dream. She has performed at area venues including Big Jim’s Pizza Co. and Topple Turtle Brewing Company—she hopes to join other Texas Panhandle artists on a national stage. KKAM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ More than 50 Lubbock ISD students received new bicycles for perfect attendance this school year. The Rotary Club of Lubbock bought the bikes at Walmart in south Lubbock on May 21 and delivered them across 28 elementary schools—marking the ninth consecutive year of the award program. KCBD
- ➤ Cash Truby, a Lubbock Cooper graduate, received his diploma on May 23 when his grandfather, former superintendent Pat Henderson, unexpectedly joined him on stage to hand over his diploma. KLBK
