COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wolfforth Farmers Market holds every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 8924 County Road 7100 in Wolfforth (located just west of Lubbock) and features more than 200 vendors on a 4-acre space offering fresh food, crafts, live music and family-friendly activities. Visitors can meet local vendors and enjoy free demonstrations that showcase regional agriculture.  KKAM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a fire at Wright Elementary School just after 4:00 a.m.—firefighters contained the blaze in the gym where pallets of hand sanitizer and books were stored, and no injuries were reported as LFR and the Fire Marshall’s Office investigated the cause.  KCBD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Blake and Kippi Buchanan built Bahama Buck's from a small snow cone shack to 119 stores in 35 years — a story of hard work and growth — and now they share their journey and lessons in a limited anniversary podcast series.  KLBK

CULTURE NEWS

  • Preston Smith Airport was established in 1929 as Lubbock Municipal Airfield (serving as a training center for army pilots during World War II) and resumed commercial air travel in 1966. The airport was renamed in 2004 (honoring former Governor Preston E. Smith) and remains a key part of our city's history.  KKAM
  • River Smiths has been a Lubbock favorite for 49 years and serves crispy fried zucchini and seafood on Avenue Q since 1976. The restaurant uses a quick counter order system—food comes out fast—and diners enjoy big, hearty plates that make every meal memorable.  KKAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lubbock Fire Rescue opened a new $8 million Fire Station 20 in South Lubbock near 142nd Street and Indiana Ave after two years of planning and construction. A grand opening and dedication to fallen firefighter Lt. Eric Hill will be held on Tuesday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m.—with community members invited to attend.  KLBK

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local chefs in Lubbock are using beef tallow for frying as restaurants like Cast Iron Grill and Anna's Mexican Restaurant update their menus with richer, old-school flavors; community members are also weighing the health risks of saturated fat versus seed oils—this trend may change local dining options.  KFYO
