COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, the Kiwanis Club placed American flags at homes and businesses across Lubbock to honor Memorial Day—its program also supports local nonprofits on other key holidays. FOX34
- ➤ On Memorial Day, the Historic City of Lubbock Cemetery hosted a ceremony where dozens honored over 2,000 veterans—attendees placed flags on graves, listened to TAPS, and witnessed a 21 Gun Salute. The event was organized by the Nancy Anderson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution with support from the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard. FOX34
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Police responded to a motorcycle crash at Quaker Avenue and the South Loop around midnight (Sunday) that left one person seriously injured. KCBD
- ➤ Roy Edward Bolen Jr., an off-duty firefighter from Snyder who served (9 years) with the department, died Sunday night when his vehicle lost control on the wet U.S. Highway 180 and overturned in the south ditch due to unsafe speed, according to Texas DPS. KLBK
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ In Ralls, first-generation graduate Mia Gandara Piedra graduated high school with honors and served as vice president of the National Honor Society, dedicating part of her speech to her mother who advised her to keep on going no matter what. She plans to study computer engineering at Texas Tech University. KLBK
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sarah Weede, a Lubbock native and Air Force veteran, said she was honored to be named director of the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery and that the project is on track to be finished later this year—creating a sacred resting place for veterans. The cemetery will serve as a lasting tribute to our service members and offer families a dedicated space to honor their loved ones. KLBK
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Texas Tech is headed to the Women’s College World Series for the first time—boosted by a $1 million NIL deal for ace pitcher NiJaree Canady who led the team with strong pitching. The Longhorns also return to the WCWS—guided by a deep lineup that includes Leighann Goode and Mac Morgan as they aim for a title run. KKAM
