  • Lubbock’s South Plains Mall will soon host Dick’s House of Sport in the former Dillard’s women’s store space, offering interactive sports spaces (including a planned outdoor track and field, climbing walls, and multi-sport cages) to boost community activity.  KFYO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tejano Outlaw Band's 'Quiero Volver Contigo' reclaimed the top spot on Rudy Trevino's Tejano Gold Countdown for the weekend of May 22-24, marking its fifth week at number one after a previous run from Apr. 10 to May 3. The hit highlights traditional Tejano sounds.  KKAM
  • Ballet Lubbock will host Community Dance Day on Saturday, May 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences offering free dance sessions for all ages.   • Tornado season in Lubbock has been calm compared to last year's severe storms and local data show a decline in tornado activity. Residents now brace for a long hot summer.  KKAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The West Texas State Veterans Cemetery will begin burial services on Monday, Jun. 1, with burials Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. plus office hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and visitation available daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; a dedication ceremony is planned later.  FOX34

HEALTH NEWS

  • Planet Fitness will offer free summer workouts for high schoolers ages 14 to 19 through its High School Summer Pass program. The workouts will run from June 1 through August 31 at 2,900 locations.  KLBK

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas Tech Softball reached its 100th win with a record 16 to 7 victory over Florida on Sunday. The team now heads to the Women’s College World Series and will face Mississippi State on Thursday at 11 a.m. CDT.  KKAM
