- ➤ The Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market opens today at LHUCA Plaza near 5th Street and Avenue J for its 17th season with over 50 local vendors offering produce, baked goods, homemade crafts and pet treats. The market runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 18 and offers a bonus for SNAP users (Double Up Food Bucks match up to $150 on fresh produce). KCBD

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock police said they identified Roshaud Ward, 33, whose body was found with a gunshot wound on Thursday evening at the 3400 block of 23rd Street after two neighbors checked on him when they could not reach him for several days—no arrests have been made. KLBK
- ➤ Johnny Sertuche, 46, pleaded guilty on Thursday to aggravated robbery in a Lubbock liquor store incident in April 2023—he used a knife that injured a man’s left eye—and he was sentenced to 30 years in prison with credit for 788 days already served. KLBK
- ➤ Lubbock police arrested 31‑year‑old Deshonn McDaniel on Tuesday on charges of theft, exploitation of vulnerable individuals, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon—court documents link him to repeated vehicle scams on Facebook Marketplace. KLBK
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock tenants learn that an eviction notice does not mean immediate removal because the landlord must first post a written notice with a deadline to vacate. The Justice of the Peace Court reviews each case — if the tenant loses and remains, a constable will enforce the eviction, and legal help is available for those in need. KFYO
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Lubbock Civic Center hosts the 2nd Annual Healthwise Expo, which opens at 10:45 a.m.—dozens of health professionals will offer free advice, screenings, and hands-on demonstrations to help residents manage their health. FOX34
- ➤ Hormel Foods recalled over 250,000 pounds of Dinty Moore Beef Stew after a wood substance was found in the product—Texans are advised to check their cabinets and dispose of any cans labeled with the lot code T0205 and best by FEB 2028, with no injuries reported so far. KKAM
