COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock Animal Services announced an urgent need for medical fosters for 9 litters of puppies and their nursing mothers—some of the puppies are newborn—and the animals will need care for 6—8 weeks. Interested volunteers can call 806.775.2057 while the city urges pet owners to spay/neuter their animals. KLBK
- ➤ The Volunteer Center of Lubbock will offer family volunteer events every Thursday from June 5 through July 31—working with local groups to host activities at sites like East Lubbock Art House and South Plains Food Bank Farm. KLBK
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 13-year-old died Saturday afternoon in a two-car crash in Gaines County— the crash occurred when a driver disregarded a stop sign, leaving six others injured and taken to local hospitals. KLBK
- ➤ A two-car crash on Sunday night in Lamb County killed 19-year-old Zack Rankin when 21-year-old Randy Lopez, traveling west on County Road 242, entered the intersection with US 385—causing Rankin’s vehicle to collide and resulting in his death at University Medical Center. KLBK
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock police arrested 38 year old Nathan Saenz on Monday after a child reported that Saenz grabbed him by the neck and tossed him against a wall, causing cuts to his ear and bruises on his face, neck, back and hips — Saenz faces charges of injury to a child with intentional serious bodily injury and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and his bond is set at $125,000. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Dustin Garrett’s Electric Mambo will perform on June 5 as a highlight of the Buddy Holly Center’s Summer Showcase Concert Series at Meadows Courtyard from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Guests may bring outside food+no outside beverages are allowed after 5:15 p.m., and visitors can also enjoy free access to Buddy Holly exhibitions and the Fine Arts Gallery. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Governor Greg Abbott named Eli Heath as a student regent for the Texas Tech University System on May 30, and he began his one-year term on June 1—replacing Jad Zeitouni and representing the student voice as an engineering major at TTU. Heath, now the 20th student regent, will serve until May 31. KLBK
- ➤ Wayland Baptist University celebrated 635 in-person and 32 online students on its Spring honor roll (298 on the President's List and 337 on the Dean's List). KLBK
