COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sunrise LBK invites dads to join a Father's Day giveaway by registering at House of Furniture at 46th and Ave Q or Ponto Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse at 5107 82nd St. The contest will award a grand prize on June 13 that includes an $800 Lazy Boy recliner, monthly meal vouchers, and additional daily prize packages for dads 18 and older with one entry allowed per day.  KFYO
  • High Point Village held its record-breaking 8th annual Recognizing AbiliTEES Golf Classic at Lakeridge County Club on June 2, where golfers played 18 holes + other games to raise funds for supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities. Organizers thanked Lubbock residents for their support and noted the fundraiser is one of three yearly events that help the non-profit continue its work.  FOX34
  • UMC Children’s Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network will host the 4th Annual Klays for KIDS on Saturday, June 14 at Hub City Clays at 1475 CR 1; the event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with registration starting at 7 a.m.—all proceeds will go to local pediatric care.  FOX34

CRIME NEWS

  • Lubbock police and the sheriff’s department are working with the West Texas Anti-Gang Center to catch ten fugitives on the June list—each is armed and dangerous, including one wanted by the FBI, and are asking residents to report any sightings.  KFYO
  • Parents in Lubbock must know that if a child starts a fire, the child may be arrested—sometimes even charged as an adult while the parent is held responsible, and officials urge families to discuss fire risks and secure matches to prevent such incidents.  KFYO

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Cotton farmers in Lubbock are planting their seeds by tomorrow, June 5, to meet the crop insurance deadline despite sparse rain, high input costs, and long drought conditions—conditions that started only a few weeks ago. Sixth-generation farmer Andrew Adams is using fewer seeds per acre to save water and cut costs—steps taken to keep his crop on track.  KLBK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lubbock Police Academy recruits finished week 16 of 30 training by practicing firearms skills with targets that mimic real-life scenarios (including one drill where they had to instruct a non-threat to keep his hands up) and worked on defensive tactics in simulated arrests. They also trained with shotguns on moving targets and practiced crash investigation procedures to prepare for real incidents.  KCBD

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas Tech Softball is two wins away from its first national championship as it faces the Texas Longhorns in a best-of-three series starting today at 7:00 p.m.—the team advanced by defeating Oklahoma 3-2 on Monday. The games will be held at Devon Park in Oklahoma City with Game 2 on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and a decisive Game 3 on Friday if needed.  KFYO
