- ➤ Peanut, a sweet dog who came from the countryside weeks ago, now lives at Post Animal Refuge Center (PARC) in Lubbock. He gets along well with other dogs and livestock and is ready to find a loving home. FOX34
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Lubbock massage parlor, Best Massage Spa (7412 S. University), was shut down by TDLR after an investigation revealed unlicensed workers and illicit ads, and eight massage establishments in six Texas cities (all owned by Ruiying Lian, Hongcui Hao, and Tianli Wang through Tongfuxin LLC) were closed on suspicion of human trafficking. - ➤ Twenty-year-old John Davila was indicted for aggravated robbery after he robbed a woman at knifepoint outside a central Lubbock restaurant last October—witnesses reported he pushed her against a wall and threatened to kill her and her children if she did not hand over her watch, shoes and cash. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ LISD students from Hutchinson and Evans middle schools won the world championship at the Global Finals in Kansas City after their project 'Play It Forward' brought games and comfort to nursing home residents—earning praise from coach Melissa Funk. They advanced through regional and state competitions to win the Service Learning Challenge—marking a life-changing experience for the team. FOX34
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Local Emergency Planning Committee is asking Lubbock residents and community partners to donate bottled water or money to support first responders during hotter weather as part of the 2025 Support Our First Responders Campaign. Donations will be accepted on Saturday, July 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Market Street at 3405 50th Street— the drop-off site — or can be mailed to Lubbock County LEPC. KCBD

- ➤ Lubbock ISD announced the appointment of Gerardo Arzaga as head coach of the Lubbock High girls basketball team—he joins from Frenship ISD where he was a math teacher and assistant coach and will start his role this summer for the 2025–2026 season. KCBD
