COMMUNITY NEWS

  • 4th on Broadway will return in 2025 with a new parade route, picnic, evening concert and fireworks show planned for July; the H-E-B Parade kicks off at 9:45 a.m. from First Baptist Church, a picnic begins at 5:00 p.m. at Mackenzie Park, the concert is set for 7:00 p.m. featuring DJ Unique, Paul Wall and Smash Mouth, and fireworks will start at 10:00 p.m. Paid parking is available at South Plains Fairgrounds and select corners while free parking is offered (on Canyon Lake Drive between Broadway and 19th Street) and volunteers or vendors must sign up by (June 15).  KLBK
  • United Supermarkets will launch a donation-at-registration campaign on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Market Street on 98th St. and Quaker Ave, where shoppers will donate funds for 16‑ounce jars of Signature Select peanut butter to help South Plains Food Bank + receive a coupon for a free Might Wash car wash. The campaign runs through June 22.  FOX34

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Lubbock man was impaled by debris during a tornado last Thursday when his truck crashed in the storm’s path, leaving him with broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and other injuries—he has already had three surgeries and faces more treatments.  KLBK

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After severe storms, over 2,500 Texans have filed property and auto claims, and Lubbock agent Ana Borrego received more than 150 claims since Thursday. She advises residents to file claims quickly with photos and receipts and to use reputable local repair services to avoid scams.  KCBD
  • The United Family announced it will build a United Supermarkets store in Wolfforth set to begin construction in spring 2026—located on the northeast corner of Donald Preston Drive and Cambridge Avenue behind United Express. The new store is expected to bring modern features, create new jobs, and boost commercial growth in the area.  FOX34

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lubbock Christian University was named a Hispanic-Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education after 28.6% of its undergraduates were Hispanic, which gives it extra federal funding. The recognition supports LCU’s ongoing work to serve local students — a move that follows the area's growing educational needs.  FOX34

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the City of Lubbock and Reliant launch the Beat the Heat program with a press conference at 11:00 a.m. at Patterson Library (1836 Parkway Drive). Officials say all four library locations will serve as cooling centers offering free water, wireless internet and charging stations when extreme heat is forecast.  KLBK
  • The Lubbock legal community honored Judge Mackey Hancock (a longtime judge and Army Reservist) who died on June 7 after decades of service; a memorial service is planned for Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Methodist Church.  KCBD

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed 744 measles cases on June 10 — fewer than 10 of which were actively infectious due to recent rash onset. Lubbock County reported 53 confirmed cases, and officials continue to monitor the outbreak closely.  KLBK
