- ➤ The City of Lubbock will host free Juneteenth celebrations that include a cultural game night on Monday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Patterson Library, a Knowledge Bowl on Friday, June 20 at 6:30 p.m. at TJ Patterson Library, and a gospel night on Sunday, June 22 at 5:30 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church—events that honor freedom, music, education and culture—inviting community participation. - ➤ Local veterans organizations led by the Veterans of Foreign Wars will host a Flag Day ceremony at the American Windmill Museum starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 14—attendees will see a display of five historic U.S. flags, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem and a flag folding ceremony that explains each fold. - ➤ On June 5, the National Weather Service reported that eight tornadoes hit Cochran, Hockley and Lubbock counties, with one tornado in Smyer injuring two people. The storm also brought strong winds and large hail that damaged roofs, windows and trees in Lubbock—causing widespread impacts. FOX34
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Texas constables are sworn officers who serve lower courts by delivering legal documents and providing courtroom security—while also having the power to arrest and enforce laws. In Lubbock, four constables serve distinct precincts, clarifying their role beyond simply serving papers. KKAM
- ➤ Today Lubbock County launched the Support Our First Responders Campaign to collect bottled water and funds for local firefighters, law enforcement, EMS, and other first responders facing extreme heat until July 7. Residents can drop off donations at 3405 50th Street on July 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. KKAM
