- ➤ Wolfforth is set to get a new full-service United Supermarkets store—construction will begin in spring on a site near the current United Express at 1110 Donald Preston Dr, and the store will include a pharmacy drive-thru, online ordering, a bakery, meat market, and ready meals to bring new jobs to the area. - ➤ Bombshells, a military-themed restaurant at 6407 6415 Spur 327 in Lubbock, announced it will open at the end of June for patio dining and live music. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A fatal shooting occurred in east Lubbock on June 13—Leonardo Pollard was fatally shot—and suspect Jeremiah Lawerence was arrested Saturday morning at 7:28 a.m. on the 1100 block of 6th Street in Slaton. KLBK
- ➤ Police chased a suspect just after 3 a.m. on June 14th after the driver hit another vehicle near West Loop and the Marsha Sharp Freeway—causing minor injuries to one person—and arrested the suspect, who is now held at Lubbock County Detention Center. KCBD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three inmates at Lubbock County Detention Center earned their GEDs this week (joining nearly 300 graduates) as the program helps them learn and lowers the chance of returning to jail. KFYO
- ➤ Literacy Lubbock held a graduation ceremony for GED students where Nicole Smith and Jasiah Escobar earned their certificates—Smith overcame homelessness and health issues while Escobar plans to pursue an engineering degree after his journeyman certification. KCBD

- ➤ Last Thursday, Lubbock suffered severe weather as trained officials manually activated the tornado sirens (they are not sensor-operated) to warn residents to take shelter, with many experiencing sheltering for the first time in nearly 40 years (which has raised questions about the system’s operation). - ➤ Lubbock experienced severe weather last Thursday that led many residents to seek shelter as tornado sirens sounded. Officials explained that the sirens are manually triggered by trained personnel — not automatically by sensors. KFYO
