CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock police arrested four suspects on Saturday after a fight near the Stripes led to shots fired—officers said the suspects used a bottle to break a car window before a gun was fired and drugs along with a weapon were recovered from a white Chevrolet. KLBK
- ➤ Reginald Fountain, 56, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on complainant information in a Lubbock court on Monday—he was accused of fatally stabbing Mario Garza, Jr., 43, in a 2023 altercation—and he will serve 15 years in prison. KLBK
- ➤ Police arrested Jeremiah Lawrence in Slaton on Saturday after he killed Leonardo Pollard in East Lubbock on Friday — officials also said a local 'No Kings' protest took place and a man accused of shooting two Minnesota lawmakers turned himself in last night. KCBD
- ➤ Lubbock Police arrested Issac Pascua, 41, on June 13 after he failed to return from a work furlough from the Oʻahu Community Correctional Center—he now faces a second-degree escape charge while serving time for kidnapping and is held at the Lubbock County Detention Center. KLBK
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Lubbock Police Department will run a free weeklong youth academy for teens between the ages of 14 and 20 from July 7–11 at the Lubbock Police Academy at Reese Center, with a few spots available and applications due June 20. Applicants must pass a background check and have reliable transportation–giving them a first-hand look at a law enforcement career. KCBD
- ➤ TxDOT said work on Lubbock’s 19th Street is delayed because crews found problems with water and storm drainage systems, and the project will now finish in March 2026. The Loop 88 work is underway with main lane paving, but its Section 3 will take 15 to 20 years to complete pending state and federal funding. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
- ➤ A family member said inmates at the Preston E. Smith unit have lived without proper showers and good sanitation since June 12, raising alarm over poor conditions. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice said it is working with Lamesa to restore water to toilets, sinks, and showers, and is offering ice, water, and portable showers (though inmates in one cell block still lack consistent access).
