COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nearly two weeks ago, veteran Bobby Rex and his daughter narrowly escaped harm when a tornado destroyed their Hockley County home near Smyer and they were treated in hospital while losing a dog and many memories; a local GoFundMe has begun to fund cleanup efforts—helping Rex salvage keepsakes and repair his damaged home. The recovery continues as neighbors support his plan to remove the home's frame and inventory what remains.  FOX34

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 7 on Wednesday in Lubbock to launch the largest generational investment in Texas water infrastructure aimed at boosting water supply by replacing old pipes and upgrading sources. Officials (including Speaker Dustin Burrows and Chairman Charles Perry) attended the event at 3:00 p.m., and voters will decide in November on a plan to provide $1 billion a year over two decades.  KLBK

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lubbock Public Health confirmed a mosquito sample tested positive for West Nile virus during its routine checks in the county. Local teams will soon increase spraying—residents are urged to use insect repellent and wear long sleeves to lower the risk of bites.  KCBD
