- ➤ Texans can purchase fireworks today at stands in the Lubbock area while stores will end sales on July 4 at midnight—fireworks are illegal in Lubbock city limits and violators may face fines up to $1000. KLBK
- ➤ Safe Haven Baby Box organization announced three new locations for mothers in crisis to safely surrender newborns (one at Covenant Children’s in Lubbock and two at Covenant Health Facilities in Levelland and Plainview). A dedication and ceremony will take place later this week at Covenant Children’s. KCBD
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock police identified 48-year-old Derek Wischemeyer—seriously injured in a dirt bike crash—after his bike collided with a car as it turned north on University Avenue at the intersection with 108th Drive at 9:52 p.m. Sunday night. KLBK
- ➤ The Lubbock Police Department said they received a call at 8:54 a.m. on June 23 about a semi-truck rollover on Martin Luther King Boulevard and the Southeast Loop, and TXDOT confirmed no injuries were reported while the nearby bridge suffered only minor damage and remains open. KLBK

- ➤ All Hale Meats will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 25 at 11:30 a.m. at its headquarters in Wolfforth—this expansion will boost processing capacity, add a ready-to-eat product line, and create new jobs while offering tours and samples to the public. FOX34
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 41 year old man known as Patricio 'Patrick' Rodriguez was arrested and charged with first degree felony arson after he intentionally set a fire at a home in the 1100 block of East Stanford in Lubbock; fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze with no injuries reported + he remains in custody on a $100,000 bond + court records noted a cigarette and a struck match at the scene. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Criminals are using AI to impersonate students and electronically apply for financial aid at colleges, risking thousands of dollars in fraudulent awards. Lubbock Christian University said that schools can counter the scam by verifying identities through direct phone calls—a measure to ensure real students receive aid. KLBK
- ➤ Texas House Bill 1481 passed and will ban students from using their cell phones openly on school campuses—pending Gov. Abbott’s signature—and has sparked mixed reactions. Some students are upset while some parents worry—especially about emergency contacts—that the ban will make it hard to reach children in emergencies. KKAM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock state senator Charles Perry said Governor Abbott vetoed the ban on consumable THC products minutes before the deadline, and lawmakers will return to the capitol next month to revise the law—Perry noted that synthetic THC is illegal. CBD store owner Jennifer Garza said the veto saved her business from closing and pushed for rules on age limits and safe packaging. KCBD
