  • The Fourth on Broadway parade in Lubbock continues under new leadership by Los Hermanos Familia as it honors the sacrifice of Pfc. Corey Lee Winkle with his Gold Star Family serving as grand marshals — the event kicks off at 9:45 a.m. on historic Broadway with each float featuring a unique gold star to mark his legacy.  KLBK

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Data from the Texas Department of Transportation shows Lubbock recorded 86 collisions with structures in 2024 (1.3% of 6,483 crashes) while there have been 45 such accidents so far in 2025 (1.6% of 2,793 total crashes).  KLBK

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Planet Fitness will begin renovations on the former Big Lots building on 98th Street in mid-July and is expected to finish by mid to late November—covering 31,000 square feet at a cost of $500,000.  KLBK

CULTURE NEWS

  • William Clark Green started Cotton Fest in 2018 to bring a memorable music festival to Lubbock and will host the event this weekend with performances on Cook’s Garage stage. Green and his partners Keyes + Cook created a family-friendly festival that also supports West Texas cotton workers through the High Cotton Relief Fund.  FOX34

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lubbock County closed online public records in 2021 after private data was leaked and has yet to restore public access, a problem that stirred heated debate during Monday’s budget meeting. Commissioners said the IT system can be reactivated in ten seconds once the district attorney permits it — a step that remains pending.  KLBK

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Lubbock pet owners are keeping pets cool by making frozen water with kibble and treats, using cooling mats, and chilling towels to help animals beat the heat. Some are also trying pet cooling vests—each option offers a safe way to relieve pets during high summer temperatures.  KKAM
  • With public pools closed in Lubbock, parents are renting private pools via the Swimply app to let their kids cool off this hot summer. The app lists five pools that charge from $25 to $60 per hour, offering a refreshing way to beat the heat.  KKAM
