  • A new Salata restaurant will open Tuesday, July 1 at Kingsgate Shopping Center at 4210 82nd Street, Suite 220—its grand opening will offer freebies like an exclusive Salata Swag Box, BOGO coupons, and free t-shirts for early guests. Local franchisees Charles and Randy Warren will donate 25% of opening day sales to CASA of the South Plains.  KLBK

CRIME NEWS

  • Lubbock man Rick Rehm (27) pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping and assault after breaking into a home to abduct a woman, and he will serve 10 years in prison for fraud and drug possession.  KLBK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas Tech grad and NFL star Patrick Mahomes launched a scholarship program for Lubbock high school seniors on Wednesday, awarding five students $10,000 each and providing $50,000 per area for a total of $150,000—supporting academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement.  KLBK
  • TTU System and Fermi America announced on June 25 a plan to build the Advanced Energy and Intelligence Campus on 5,800 acres in the Panhandle; the project will include 18 million square feet of data centers and generate up to 11 gigawatts of power from natural gas, solar, wind, and clean nuclear energy. The collaboration will also offer new research and training opportunities for TTU students and faculty.  FOX34
  • Deborah Garoui, a Garza County teacher and debate coach, was honored nationally for turning a small-town program into a fully funded speech and debate team that advanced to the national tournament – an achievement that began in Brownfield and carried over to her work at Post High School. She received a $100,000 gift from Canva to pay down her medical debt, repair her son's wheelchair, and help cover her daughter's college costs – a recognition of the sacrifices made through long commutes and personal challenges.  KLBK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Lubbock Animal Services needs medical foster homes for more than 56 puppies who require care for up to 6-8 weeks; the department also urges all pet owners to spay or neuter their animals to help manage the stray population.  KCBD
  • U.S. Rep. Jodey Arrington backed the HALT Fentanyl Act on June 12, which passed the House 321—104 and will permanently classify fentanyl analogues as Schedule I to give law enforcement tougher tools against traffickers affecting Lubbock. Local community groups plan naloxone training next month while critics say the bill could limit medical research and boost prison numbers.  KFYO
