  • More than one hundred locals came to Hub City Clays on Saturday for Texas 635's 'Shooting for the Cause' event to honor officers killed in the line of duty. Organizer Carmen East said all funds – including donations and fees – went to support programs for families of fallen officers.  KCBD
  • On Friday morning, June 27, the Mission Sisters of St. Francis gathered at Lubbock Detention Center to pray for detained immigrants and call for justice after ICE took Sister Leticia Rodriguez-Ojeda on June 25 (she was moved to Dallas) as local participants held signs demanding fair treatment.  KLBK
  • Lubbock VFW hosted its 2nd Annual Ruck for Resilience event Saturday, June 28 to honor veterans and first responders by offering 2-mile and 5-mile ruck, walk or run routes — guest speaker Dennis Boyd and local food and activities added to the family-friendly celebration at Hebrews Coffee on Marshall Street.  KLBK

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Friday afternoon, a freightliner truck hit a car near US 380 and FM 179, killing Lubbock man Jonathan Torres, 29—he was driving north—while truck driver Matthew Ulman, 61, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.  KLBK

  • LubbockPRIDE held its 13th annual Pride Fest on Saturday in the Arts District where over 100 vendors, live music, and varied performances united the community despite significant sponsorship losses. Organizers said that donations, ticket revenue, and board contributions kept the event going—underscoring their commitment to inclusion even amid protest and backlash.  The Daily Toreader
  • Lubbock author Rebecca Bejarano completed her book 'Crosby's Challenge' after three years of work—this story follows a young girl who enters a magical world to mend her family after divorce. United Supermarkets held her book signing on Saturday and Bejarano said the book is meant to help readers cope with divorce.  FOX34

HEALTH NEWS

  • Starting Monday, June 30, Lubbock Public Health will switch the MMR vaccine clinic to an appointment-only schedule with appointments available Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. — the change comes after expanded walk-in hours were implemented during a measles outbreak, with no cases reported in Lubbock since May 4.  KCBD
  • Starting tomorrow, Lubbock Public Health will end walk-in MMR vaccine clinics and require appointments only - appointments will be available Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The change follows an expanded schedule set up during measles outbreak concerns, though no cases have been reported since May 4.  FOX34
