ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A one-vehicle motorcycle crash near FM 400 and County Road 3523 left one rider seriously injured Saturday evening and the injured person was taken to University Medical Center after a call at 5:36 p.m.—the Texas Department of Public Safety reported the incident.  KLBK

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lubbock's new Home-Based Business Fairness Act lets local entrepreneurs run home-based businesses without extra city hall rules—Governor Greg Abbott signed the law last week. The change means home bakers, teachers, and crafters can work from home while keeping neighborhood disruptions in check.  KKAM

CRIME NEWS

  • Lubbock Police arrived at 3:22 a.m. on the 2900 block of Parkway Drive after a fight was reported and found a suspect firing at others, which prompted an officer to shoot and kill him while four victims were taken to UMC for treatment—three with serious injuries and one with moderate injuries.  FOX34
  • Lubbock Police received 267 fireworks calls Friday night and issued no citations as officials focused on conscious compliance while warning that any remaining fireworks must be used only outside city limits.  FOX34
  • Lubbock Police said an officer shot and killed a male suspect at 3:22 a.m. on July 5 in the 2900 block of Parkway Drive after the suspect fired at others during a fight—four people were taken to University Medical Center with injuries ranging from serious to moderate.  KLBK

  • A new study by Caring.com shows Texas is the second most affordable state for senior care, which helps Lubbock families with low costs for assisted living, in-home care, and nursing home rooms. The report noted that the median cost for a private nursing home room is just over $85,000 per year compared to rates in New York + California.  KKAM
