- ➤ Catholic Charities of Lubbock is asking community members to donate nonperishable food and household staples to restock its emergency food pantry that served 667 people in June. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at its main office (102 Avenue J) as demand grows. FOX34
- ➤ Dairy Queen celebrated its 40th year of the Blizzard Treat at UMC Children’s Hospital in Lubbock with a treat party that featured a visit from Mr. Blizzard — the chain will donate part of sales on July 31 to support children’s care. KKAM
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Camilo Reyes Castillo, 46, a former teacher’s aide at Levelland Middle School, was federally indicted on seven counts of producing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography involving a prepubescent minor and remains in Lubbock County Detention Center after being booked on June 26—authorities say he exchanged illegal messages before his arrest. - ➤ A 29-year-old man named Nickolas Anthony Deleon fatally stabbed his mother on Wednesday at 7:40 a.m. in the 6600 block of North County Road 1630 in Shallowater—he said he planned the act and was arrested on murder charges. KLBK

- ➤ Texas Tech University researcher Dr. Wenxuan Guo is using drones, robots + soil sensors to monitor crop and soil conditions in local fields so that farmers can adjust irrigation and fertilizer use. The technology captures plant height, temperature, and soil fertility to help guide smart farming choices in this water-scarce region. KLBK
